Three Vinton sandlot football teams are still alive as the Sandlot Super Bowl tournament moves to the semifinal round this Saturday. Spartan Field, in front of Salem High School, and Bogle Field at Cave Spring Middle School will be the site for this weekend’s games.
The 8U semifinals will be at Bogle Field. The Vinton team, coached by Robert Shepherd, defeated Botetourt in the quarterfinal round last Saturday to advance to the semifinals. Vinton will play Salem at 10:30 am, followed by Glenvar against Franklin County at noon in the other semifinal.
In the 10U bracket the Vinton Terriers’ team coached by Marcus Hill advanced with a 30-0 win over North Roanoke. Vinton will play the second seeded Salem team at 10:30 am at Spartan Field this Saturday while the other bracket has Franklin County against the Salem team that came in as the fourth seed. Vinton is the third seed.
Gary Wheeler’s 12U Terrier team is the top seed in the U12 bracket. Vinton remained undefeated with a 44-9 rout of Salem in last Saturday’s quarterfinal. This week Vinton will take on Franklin County at 9 am at Spartan Field. In the other bracket Cave Spring, the second seed, will host Hidden Valley at 9 am at Bogle.
All championship games are at Salem Stadium on November 5.
