The William Byrd girls didn’t let a little water hold them down as they defeated Hidden Valley in soccer at Patterson Stadium Tuesday night, 3-1, in a game played in the pouring rain.
Hidden Valley got off the boat first with a goal just eight minutes into the game to take a 1-0 lead. However, the Terriers bounced back with two first half goals of their own to take a 2-1 edge into intermision. Maddy Simmons was assisted by Addisyn St. Clair with 12 minutes left in the first half for the first goal, and six minutes later St. Clair gave Byrd the lead off an assist from Riley Firebaugh.
The Terriers held a 2-1 lead for most of the second half until Claire Glover scored off a pass from Anna Milliron with 17 minutes remaining to give Byrd a 3-1 lead and a little cushion to finish the game. Sophia Chrisley was back in goal for the Terriers after returning from an injury and tallied six saves.
With the win the girls improved to 4-1 on the season. They won’t play again until next Tuesday, April 12, when they host Lord Botetourt.
