SWIMMERS DO WELL AT LAKE SWIM
Some swimmers from Vinton did well in the Lake Swim at Smith Mountain Lake last weekend.
The International Swim Coaches Association(ISCA) East Coast Open Water Championship was held Sunday at Smith Mountain Lake State Park. Meet Director Doug Fonder has been hosting the Lake Swim for over 25 years and Saturday the weather couldn’t have been better. Events included a 5K race open to all ages, a half mile race for nine and under swimmers and a one mile race open to all ages.
For the 1-Mile and 5K races there was an in-water start at the beach. All 9 & Under swimmers in the half mile were taken by boat to the half-way point of the course and swam their event from a boat start to a big blow up arch that marked the finish line.
Two kids from W.E. Cundiff and one from William Byrd Middle School participated in the event. Collyns Terrell, age nine, won first place overall in the nine and under girls division. Londyn Terrell, age six, took fourth place in the nine and under girls division as the youngest athlete entered in the whole event. Hadyn Terrell, age 11, won the 11 and under girls division.
