Yes, Vinton, there will be a Halloween celebration in 2020—just in a different format and venue than usual.
The Town of Vinton will be celebrating Halloween 2020 with Movie Night on the lawn of the Vinton War Memorial on Friday, October 30, from 7 to 9 p.m.
This is a free event provided by the Town of Vinton for the community. Vinton Baptist Church will be supplying pre-packaged popcorn and drinks—also free to everyone.
The featured movie, “Hocus Pocus,” will be playing on a huge 40 x 22-foot screen rented by the town from Lee Hartman and Sons.
Attendees are encouraged to dress in costume. There will be a Halloween Costume Contest for the children—socially distanced–with the winners chosen by crowd applause. First, second, and third places will be awarded and receive a small gift.
Town staff collectively made the choice to forego the annual Downtown Trick-or-Treating event with the most recent CDC guidelines identifying trick-or-treating, trunk-or-treating, and indoor haunted houses as “high risk” activities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Halloween Movie Night at the War Memorial, pods will be marked on the front lawn to enable families to sit together. Masks are required until you are seated.
“I am very excited to be able to offer somewhat of a Halloween event,” said Chasity Barbour, Vinton Director of Community Programs and Facilities. “It’s a very unsure time and we would like to be as safe as we can for our community and children. Thank you for your support of this event.”
The Town of Vinton does not place any restrictions on neighborhood Trick or Treating within the community.
