Tony Allie won $1 million (after taxes) in the Virginia Lottery Bank a Million game. He purchased the winning ticket at the Bee Quick Market on Hardy Road in Vinton on November 18, matching all six numbers with his $2 wager. The winning numbers were 07-10-13-18-33-37, which he allowed the terminal to select for him.
He received his official check from the Virginia Lottery officials at the store on November 29. The Bee Quick Market gets a prize as well for selling the winning ticket– $10,000.
According to the Virginia Lottery, Allie semi-retired about a year ago. Thanks to winning the top prize in the Bank a Million game, he says he is ready for full-time retirement.
Allie says he thought he was having a dream when he checked the numbers on the website shortly after the drawing.
He told Virginia Lottery officials that he and his wife will do some remodeling at their home, share some with their three children, and make plans for retirement.
Bank a Million is played exclusively in Virginia. The top prize is calculated so that winners actually receive $1 million after federal and state tax withholdings.
Drawings are Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11 p.m. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 3.8 million. The odds of winning any prize are 1 in 18.3.
The Virginia Lottery says it generates more than $1.5 million per day for Virginia’s K-12 public schools. Operating entirely on revenue from the sale of lottery products, the Virginia Lottery generated more than a half-billion dollars for Virginia’s public schools in Fiscal Year 2017.
