For many years, the William Byrd High School PTSA has organized an After Prom celebration. The sole purpose of this activity is to provide a safe, fun, and memorable drug and alcohol free all-night celebration for students.
After Prom is extremely vital in providing a safe place for students to have fun following prom. Peer pressure is the highest for teens on prom night and graduation. The WBHS After Prom Committee is committed to making this an event that students will want to attend and will stay the entire night, an announcement from the group said.
Parents and volunteers are once again working countless hours to provide a memorable and entertaining night, both drug and alcohol-free on Saturday, April 14, 2018. This special event sends a clear message to every student that “we care about their safety,” it said.
In previous years, the generosity of the community has provided t-shirts, valuable prizes, gift cards, games, and food for all WBHS students present.
“Your support of this worthwhile tradition will continue to be shared with our children, your child, or perhaps the child of someone close to you,” said Karen Hanley, president of the WBHS PTSA. “It is our goal to keep this night completely free for students, thus making it fully accessible for all to attend. We are the only school in Roanoke County that does not charge our students to attend.”
The committee once again is asking the community, including businesses, organizations, and individuals, to support the WBHS After Prom celebration by making donations to the event.
Although the event is in April, to be able to develop a budget, donations would be appreciated at this time. However, the PTSA is more than happy to accept any donation at any time before the event.
Donations are tax deductible. The PTSA will provide a letter detailing the donation and include its tax ID number for tax records. Checks may be made payable to WBHS PTSA After Prom
