In keeping with the tradition established by Head Coach Brad Lutz, the William Byrd Terriers football team plays each game in honor of a soldier who gave their life in service to our country. On October 22, they played in honor of two Fallen Heroes—Army Spc. Brian “Bucky” Anderson and William Byrd graduate Army Lt. Terry Plunk.
Anderson was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York. He was killed in Afghanistan on June 12, 2010, when insurgents attacked his vehicle using an improvised explosive device.
Plunk served with the 27th Engineering Battalion, 20th Engineer Brigade. He was also a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute. He was killed on February 26, 1991, while clearing land mines in Iraq.
