Jones is entering his seventh season at Radford men’s basketball program after taking the position in June 2011. During his tenure the Highlanders defeated opponents, such as Georgetown, Virginia Tech and Penn State and reached the Big South Championship Semifinals in 2017.
Prior to becoming the coach at Radford, Jones was Assistant Coach at VCU, the University of Georgia, the University of West Virginia, the University of Richmond, Furman University, and Howard University. He attended Howard University, where he played varsity basketball. He also was an outstanding player at Old Dominion University.
In April 2013, McGuire was hired as the Highlanders’ seventh NCAA head women’s basketball coach in program history.. In 2015, his team racked up Radford’s first Big South Regular Season Championship in 25 years.
McGuire graduated from Roanoke College where he stayed one year as assistant coach for the men’s basketball program. Then, he became head coach for the girls’ basketball team for his alma mater, William Byrd High School, followed by a stint with the Hidden Valley High School girls’ basketball team. Before coaching at Radford, he was head coach of the women’s basketball team for the University of Richmond.
The Sports Club meeting has been designated as “Radford University Night” because of additional programs such as featuring Robert Lineburg, Radford’s Athletic Director, and special recognition of Norm Lineburg and Joe Davis.
Anyone not a member of the Sports Club and is interested in attending the meeting should call Joyce Montgomery at 354-6751 or Maggie Drewry at 353-1103 as soon as possible.
