The William Byrd cross country team competed in the Radford Invitational on the Radford Bobcat Trail at the Radford Rec. Center last weekend. The boys won the day and the girls were second in the three mile race on a very tough course.
The boys finished with 47 points to take first among five teams. Radford was second with 59.
Leading the way individually for Byrd was Cam Dalton, who was second overall with a time of 18:58. Dylan Cline of Gretna was the winner at 18:08.
Also scoring for Byrd were Luke Johnston in seventh place, Ashton Ashley in eighth, Greyson Cornett in 10th and Jayden Glass in 21st place.
“The boys are starting to run in a pack and this is what it is going to take for us to get out of the Region meet to State,” said coach Eric Royal.
For the girls Erin Wienke was third overall with a time of 23:31. Anneliese Stewart of Radford won the race in 23:13.
Morgan Fletchall, just back from an injury, finished fifth overall. Also scoring for Byrd were Kayland Bond in sixth place, Evie Laherty in eighth and Julia Burek in 10th.

The Terriers are now off until the Metro at Blacksburg High School on October 18.
“We will be working hard to have a strong finish at Metro and prepare for Regions.
