On Friday, January 14, W.E. Cundiff Elementary School in Vinton celebrated a PBIS Incentive Day to reward their students for filling up the school Terrier Ticket Collection Container.
PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, and is an approach used throughout Roanoke County Public Schools to promote school safety and good behavior.
At W.E. Cundiff, students recite the “Team Cundiff Pledge” each morning reminding all students to be safe, respectful, responsible, and ready to learn. Throughout each school day, students are rewarded for showing the tenets of the pledge by receiving Terrier Tickets. Once students fill up their classroom container, it is dumped into the grade level container, and once the grade level container is full, the grade level can dump their Terrier Tickets into the School Collection Container.
Team Cundiff met their first semester goal of filling up the school collection container, and every student and staff member received ice cream on Friday, January 14, as well as had the opportunity to watch a movie starring the WEC staff and 5th Grade Terrier Team reminding them of the school wide expectations.
Teachers showed the students what NOT to do, and the 5th Grade Terrier Team showed students what TO DO! It was an awesome day full of fun, ice cream, and rewarding the students for meeting their goal.
The ice cream was donated by the new Vinton Branch of the Bank of Botetourt, which was much appreciated by WEC students and staff.
