The William Byrd volleyball girls got off to a slow start this year, but as the leaves begin to turn orange and maroon they’re on a roll.
Byrd won two matches in the past week and they’ve now won five of their last six. Byrd beat William Fleming and Staunton River, both in three sets.
Last Thursday in Vinton the Terriers beat Fleming, 25-7, 25-7 and 25-13. Mary Kate Price was flawless behind the service line, coming up with four aces on the night. Lauren Heck led the offense, putting down nine kills, and Elena Boitnett set the offense into action by dishing out 14 assists.
On Tuesday the girls put another Blue Ride District win under their belt with a 3-0 victory at Staunton River. Price served five aces and Heck had 11 kills and 5 aces. Megan James served up nine points for the Terriers and Anna McSherry had five digs.
Byrd is now 6-11 overall and the Terriers will have their paws full tonight when they host undefeated Lord Botetourt. Next Tuesday the girls are at Northside.
