Find out about a project to enhance pedestrian safety
on a 0.34-mile section of Virginia Avenue (Route 24)
that starts just west of 4th Street and extends to just
east of South Pollard Street.
The project entails adding crosswalks, curb ramps
and pedestrian signals at Virginia Avenue’s signalized
intersections with Third Street, South Pollard Street
and the entrance to Precision Fabrics Group.
Pedestrian accommodations also will be installed at
Virginia Avenue’s unsignalized intersections with
Fourth Street, Second Street and First Street and at
South Pollard Street’s unsignalized intersections with
Cedar Avenue and Jefferson Avenue.

If your concerns cannot be satisfied, VDOT is willing
to hold a public hearing. You may request that a
public hearing be held by sending a written request to
Tim Dowdy, Virginia Department of Transportation,
731 Harrison Avenue, Salem, VA 24153, on or prior to
July 25, 2025. If a request for a public hearing is
received, notice of date, time and place of the hearing
will be posted.
