VINTON–The Vinton Public Library is introducing a new Coloring Club for adults, “64 Shades of Vinton.” The club meets on the first Wednesday and the third Monday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m., beginning on August 5.
Adult coloring has become all the rage across the nation in the past year according to library assistant Kimberly Burnette-Dean. Some coloring books are so popular that they are on Best Seller lists with names like “Whimsical Gardens,” “Creative Cats,” “Splendid Cities,” and “Color Me Calm.”
A recent article in the Huffington Post described the hobby as a way to “de-stress and self-express.”
Burnette-Dean said that the name of the class came from the Crayola No. 64 flip-top box assortment of 64 crayons which was introduced in 1958.
Pre-registration is not required for the coloring club, but would be helpful in setting up space in the library meeting room. There is no charge to participate.
Participants for the Vinton sessions may bring their own coloring sheets and supplies; some will be available at the library. Coloring books and materials are available at local stores including A.C. Moore and Barnes and Noble, and online from various companies, as well as at many retailers advertising back to school supplies.
