Walk-in hours at the Vinton Municipal Building on Pollard Street in downtown Vinton will
change on June 7.
Lobby hours within the Municipal Building (Administration, Finance, and Planning and Zoning)
remain available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
On Fridays, town offices will remain open for business; however, citizens or businesses will
need to make an appointment with the appropriate department if planning an in-person visit.
Staff may be reached by phone at the main line at 540-983-0601 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Monday through Friday or by email. For a full list of contacts, citizens are encouraged to visit
the town’s website at www.vintonva.gov.
“Staff conducted a three-month survey on visitation and the change is being made in the interests
of staff scheduling and efficiency,” said Vinton Town Manager Pete Peters. “The research
process and discourse concerning a change in schedule has been in the works for about a year
and has been agreed to for a 60-day trial period to determine functionality and whether
adjustments need to be made. Given the amount of lobby traffic we see, the availability of the
drive-thru window, and with the ability to transact almost all town businesses online, we believe
this will have little impact on the customer.”
According to Assistant Planning and Zoning Director Nathan McClung, “All of the functions and
services provided by the Planning and Zoning Department (including zoning permits, building
permits, site plan reviews, subdivision plat reviews) have the capability of being completed or
provided via a virtual means.
“We make it our duty (in Planning and Zoning) to be readily available over the phone or by
email Monday through Friday. If a question or process requires more research or the creation of
documents, we are always sure to inform our customers of the estimated number of hours or days
it may take to follow back up with them.
“If a question or specific property inquiry will require more research, it is always better to set up
an appointment with staff members. This gives our staff the opportunity to complete all the
necessary research on the parcel, zoning requirements, and possible State Code requirements, so
that we can provide a full-detailed and accurate analysis of the property and its intended uses,
prior uses, etc.”
Treasurer/Finance Director Andrew Keen says, “The Treasurer’s Office drive-thru window will
remain available to customers Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for payments. The
payment drop box in the drive-thru lane will remain accessible 24/7 and the “Received Date” is
always posted to the previous business date if received after the close of business and before 9
a.m. the next day.
All forms including business licenses, meals tax filing forms, transient occupancy, and all other
regularly utilized forms are available online at vintonva.gov and can be submitted through the
drop box or via email at treasurer@vintonva.gov.
Additionally, the Treasurer’s Office will be open on Fridays during tax collections in May and
November.
