The Roanoke Valley Aquatic Association regular season of six Monday night meets will come to a close next week. The Vinton Area Swim Team will be at Forest Hills to take on the host team and Hidden Valley.
This week the Vinton swimmers were at Read Mountain, where they scored 353 points against a large Read Mountain team and Limestone Park. Read Mountain is one of four Division I teams, the largest division in the RVAA, while VAST and Limestone are both Division IV teams.
Top scorers for Vinton were Austin Nielsen (13) and Glenn Buyalos (41), who each finished first place gold in the 50 free and 100 IM in their respective divisions, scoring 30 points each. Danielle Allmon (8) also finished first place gold in the 25 free and the 100 IM, scoring 30 points.
Hannah Grove (15) and Madelynn Sprouse (14) each finished second place gold in the 50 free and second place gold in the 100 IM in their respective age groups, scoring 29 points for the team. Hannah Scott (15) finished third gold in both the 50 free and the 100 IM, scoring 26 points for the team. Taly Kwaramba (8) finished second place gold in the 25 free and first place silver in the 100 IM, scoring 24 points for the team.
Michael Hoyos (11) finished second silver in the 50 free and second gold in the 100 IM to score 24 points. Brother Ben Hoyos (7) finished first silver in both the 25 free and the 100 IM, scoring 20 points. He dropped -9.14 seconds off his 100 IM time.
Coach Ben Nielsen (37) finished second silver in the 50 free and first silver in the 100 IM, scoring 19 points. Delaney Allmon (10) finished second silver in the 25 free and first silver in the 100 IM, scoring 19 points. Matthew Hoyos (13) finished second silver in the 50 free and first silver in the 100 IM, also scoring 19 points.
Analise Buyalos (7) finished third gold in the 25 free, scoring 13 points, while Cary Jones (8) finished first silver in the 25 free, earning 10 points. Callie Shuler (8) finished second silver in the 25 free and second bronze in the 100 IM, scoring 13 points.
Savannah Bailey (10) finished fourth silver in the 50 free and third bronze in the 100 IM, scoring 10 points. Gretchen Moomey (12) finished first silver int he 50 free, scoring 10 points. Ella Shuler (10) finished first bonze in the 50 free and second bronze in the 100 IM, scoring 9 points. Ella dropped -12.63 seconds off her 100 IM time. Amanda Buyalos (35) and Peggy Dubose (68) each finished first bronze in the 50 free in their respective age groups, scoring 5 points for the team.
Aiden Beasley (7) dropped -11.22 seconds off his 25 free time. Callie Lusk (10) dropped -6.08 seconds off her 50 free and earned a legal time in the 100 IM. Kinley McGee (7) dropped -3.38 seconds off her 25 free time.
After next week’s meet at Forest Hills the VAST will take a week off to prepare for the big City-County meet at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center on July 28 & 29.
