It was balmy but “bearable” at Patterson Stadium last week as the William Byrd track team hosted an outdoor “Polar Bear” meet. Lord Botetourt, Northside and Glenvar teams joined the host Terriers at Patterson Stadium to open the indoor season outdoors.
Byrd had some outstanding performances on the Vinton oval. For the girls, Sydney Blewett finished second in the 55m dash and won the shot put with a throw of 31’1”. Sela Beatty won the long jump with a leap of 14-11.5. Olivia Hurd won the 1000m run with a time of 3:20.33 and Riley Roth finished fourth in the 1600m run.
Remi Figart finished third in the 300m dash. Allyson Mavredes was fifth in the 500m dash.
On the boys’ side Dylan Hughes finished fourth in the 55m dash and won the 300m dash with a time of 39.60. Wyatte Bailey finished second in the 500 with a time of 1:15.65.
In the 1000m run Braden Crossen finished second with a time of 3:15.12 and Reagan Lilley was fourth in the 1600 at 6:06.96. In the 55m hurdles Walker Nance was second with a time of 9.14. In the jumps Jordan Johnson finished fifth at 17’9.5” Devon Foutz was second in the shot put with a throw of 31’4”.
On Saturday the Terriers traveled to Lexington for the Walt Cormack Invitational at VMI’s Corps Physical Training Facility. Chloe Harrilla took eighth place in the long jump with a jump of 16’2.75” and 15th in the triple jump at 30’11”. Blewett finished 11th in the shot put with a throw of 30’3.25”.
Hurd finished 13th in the 1600m run with a time of 5:37.71. Beatty finished 18th in the 55m dash at 7.68 and Emma Gordon was 29th in the 500m dash with a time of 1:28.51.
Nance took 14th in the hurdles with a time of 8.89 seconds. Hughes finished 22nd in the 55m dash in 6.88 and finished 14th in the long jump with a distance of 19’2.75”.
This weekend the indoor Terriers will be traveling to Liberty University for the Liberty University Christmas Invitational, beginning at 9:30 am.
