Hadyn Terrell, a nine year old girl from Vinton, has been named Virginia Swimming’s nine-year-old Swimmer of the Year for 2020.
Once a year Virginia Swimming names one male and one female in each age group as the best all-around swimmer in the state, and this year Hadyn was selected in the nine year old girls’ category. She swims year round for the Virginia Gators under age group coach Brett Fonder. A fifth grader at W.E. Cundiff Elementary School, Hadyn’s mother, Kyndal Terrell, is a former swimmer at William Byrd. Hadyn in the daughter of Kyndal and Mike Terrell, and her uncle is Khalil Fonder, a state record holder from Byrd who now swims for Virginia Tech.
“I’m so excited for Hadyn to receive an award of this magnitude and be recognized for all of her hard work,” said coach Brett Fonder. “Whether in life or in the pool she is always striving to be the best she can be. The Gators are so proud of Hadyn and are excited to watch her grow.”
Byrd coach Krista Martin was a teammate of Hadyn’s mom on the William Byrd team.
“Hadyn is incredible,” said Martin. “She is ambitious and determined. She’s also a great role model for her peers.”
