Marlow and Karon Semones Ferguson, owners of Star City Playhouse in Vinton, are offering three free lunchtime plays to the community during December and January.
All three plays will be presented at the Star City Playhouse at 107 South Pollard Street, near the corner of Pollard and Washington Avenue.
On Monday, December 11 at 12:15, they will be presenting “I’m Herbert” for the Vinton Chamber of Commerce. The performance will run about 45 minutes.
On Monday, December 18, again at 12:15, the play presented to the community will be “Wanda’s Visit.” This one also runs for about 45 minutes.
On Monday, January 8, Star City will present “Bridal Party,” written by Karon Sue Semones. This 45-minute production also begins at 12:15 and is presented for Vinton Seniors.
The Fergusons say that lunchtime theatre tends to build audiences for regular evening and weekend theatre performances.
The new 2018 season is shaping up and will include productions of the “Gin Game” from January 26 through February 11, “Private Lives” from April 6-22, “The Dresser” from June 8-24, “Cactus Flower” from August 10-26, “An Inspector Calls” from October 5-21, and “The Bargain,” adapted by Karon Ferguson from Charles Dickens, from November 30-December 16.
There will be auditions after the first of the year.
Star City is also planning a paint night fundraiser with Tonya Kirk in the new year with the date to be announced.
