The 2020 Roanoke Valley Aquatic Association season has been officially cancelled.
The RVAA annually conducts six Monday night meets, followed by a City-County meet near the end of the July. The Vinton Area Swim Team, based at the LancerLot pool, was one of 14 swim teams scheduled to compete this year before precautions to contain the coronavirus pandemic made it impossible to hold the meets.
“Although RVAA will not be having a competitive season this year we are planning on having a summer team,” said Sarah Nielsen, Vinton’s RVAA representative and a Summer Director for the association. “We are not sure exactly what the season will look like but we will be getting in the pool as soon as it is possible for practice. Depending on when we can get in the water and when other teams can get in we are hoping to have some exhibition meets towards the end of the summer.”
Vinton has had some talented swimmers over the years and a loyal core of competitors.
“This would be my daughter’s 13th year swimming with RVAA,” said Lauren Sprouse, mother of swimmer Madelynn Sprouse. “It is very sad to think about summer without swimming.”
