The William Byrd High School Class of 1961 had their quarterly dinner at Logan’s
Roadhouse on December 4, 2016.
This class has remained extremely close and they are not just classmates but dear friends. They always have each other’s backs. Most have been friends for at least 55 years and many have been friends since grade school which would be 67 years. That’s AMAZING.

Olivia Temple Davis (’61), who lives in New Market, was able to attend. She will be building a new house outside of Vinton later next year, and it will really be nice to have her back in the area. Wayne Goodman (’61) is in rehab, following a week at RMH, at the Fishwick Center at Brandon Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation. He hoped to be home by Christmas.
How wonderful they all have remained friends all these years!
Thomas and Catherine Snead were married December 24, 1941.
They are members of Thrasher Memorial UMC, where they were active for many years. Thomas is a Life Member of the Vinton First Aid Crew that he joined in 1957. Catherine was in the First Aid Crew Women’s Auxiliary. Thomas is a WWII veteran, stationed in the Philippines.
Thomas is 95 and Catherine will be celebrating her 94th birthday in January. They have three children, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Their family is planning a celebration after the first of the year.
Congrats and Happy Anniversary to Chris and Sabrina McCarty, 7 years, Anna Marie F. and Phil Leffell, 11 years, Shelby and Ron Foutz, 59 years, Jim and Valerie Hoover, 38 years, Missy and Mike Stanley, John and Betty Sue Reid, 48 years. May you all have many more together.

I wrote about Emmy two years ago and her fight to survive. She truly was a fighter– just look at her now. Saturday she will be 3 y
ears old. Emmy is a ball of fire and oh so smart. Emerson Grace Brooks is a true miracle. Grandma and PeePaw and Pops want to wish her a Happy Birthday. She is a blessing from God. She is a joy to all.
Get Well wishes and prayers go out to all those that have been sick over the holidays, Glad Chris Duncan is over his food poisoning (not a good way to lose 15 pounds), Carolyn Williams (can speak above a whisper now), James Short (doing great after knee replacement), Duane Rice, (surgery Wednesday), Grace Neighbors (at Berkshire), Kali Hurd (on way to Texas to see doctors for help with her cancer), Greg Bailey (severe head trauma, in ICU). Send cards to him at 4052 Trail Drive, Roanoke 24012. He delivered mail for years, now it is time for him to get some. It is always nice to send cards to all sick or shut in, plus nursing homes.
