People, Places and Things by Bootie Chewning
Vinton Baptist Church held its PGA Kids Camp at Camp Alta Mons in Shawsville August 4-6.
PGA Kids Camp is not only beneficial to the kids but to the youth and adult chaperones. Anna Marie Feury Tolbert has been going for four years now. She says it is so emotional to see them grow up and then move on to the youth group. It is so powerful to see the after-effects of camp where last year they had five children decide they wanted to walk closer to God and be baptized.
It’s such a good program where they take the Bible and apply how to use it in school against bullying, how to handle friends, how not to be afraid of starting middle school, an opportunity to talk to youth and ask what did you do in this situation or for them to share here is how they handled things and they could have done it better by seeking God first.
The hike is about 2-1/2 miles up and the 2-1/2 back. Stiles Falls is amazing to sit and see God’s wonder. They were accompanied by six large monarch butterflies that fluttered among the children enjoying the falls. The children later heard from leader Mark Sink on how Christ was beaten, carried that heavy cross weighing at least 100 pounds 3 miles. The kids could envision the distance from their walk.
Lori Dixon (Camp Director), Sarah Hurt (Youth Counselor), Logan Naff (Youth Minister), and Mark Sink all shared messages from the Bible in relation to the fruits of the spirit. Their youth, Leann Williamson, Alexis Hough, Matt Parish, and Heidi Dixon, all worked together to provide their worship music. God is good!
This camp helped Anna Marie as a leader four years ago let go of one of the deepest hurts she had carried for about 10 years at that time. She now has peace from God and it feels great!
Sounds like a great camp. Thanks Lori, Anna Marie and all that made the camp a huge success. God Bless you!
