Summer might be over, but Mingle at the Market has two more– October 14 (after Fall Festival) and November 11– so you will still have some more fun time. Thanks to all the volunteers last Saturday night; what a blessing you are to help with the large crowd; those setting up and taking down, Police Department, Rescue Squad, Seven Mile Ford Band,
all the sponsors and vendors. Above all, Vinton Chamber of Commerce, Angie, Kathyrn, Justin, Beth, Michelle, Sonia and Todd, and Mayor Brad. It takes a lot of people for each event and they are appreciated. Plus all that came to enjoy the night. Thank you!
Someone remarked to me, “Boy, Vinton has come alive in the past few years.” I said, “We have always been alive, just having more people find it out and come enjoy IN VINTON.” There’s always something happening here if you just look for it– Event Zone will have several more Friday nights, Sept. 22, Fuzzy Logic, Vinton Farmer’s Market; Twin Creeks Brewery always having something going; Star City Playhouse (yes, Vinton has a theater with live performances) one door down from the brewery. The show on now is “Enemy of the People” Sept. 1-17, three weekends only– Fridays, 7 p.m., Saturday-Sunday matinees, 2 p.m. Admission $10; students and seniors. $8. Phone 366-1446, check out their Facebook page, Star City Playhouse. Please support the theater.
Very proud of our Miss Virginia Cecili Weber at the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City. She was in the top 10 and did an awesome job. In the picture is Cecili in the “Show Us Your Shoes Parade” on Saturday night. Each girl had her shoes designed for her to show. Cecili’s were boots to go with her cowgirl outfit, paying tribute to Patsy Cline, a legend from Winchester. Always a fun bight on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City! Way to go, girl!
For those girls wanting to get in a pageant, the age now is Teens 13-17- including seniors, for the Miss, 18-25. Find a local pageant and enter, a great way to get scholarships for college. Most the girls last night had already won at least $30,000 or more. Congrats to Cara Mund– the new Miss America; one of her prizes was a $50,000 scholarship. She was Cecili’s roommate during the week. So girls, brush up on your talent and enter a local pageant.
Congrats and Happy Anniversary to Julia O. and Tim Webster (lovebirds in the picture), Connie and Gary Houff, 33 years, Dave and Donna Spangler (Dancing Duo), 17 years. May you all have many more together.
