Last week was sad, saying goodbye to one of Vinton’s finest young men and husband, Dad and Granddad plus business person, continuing the legacy of his Dad Bob Wood. Tommy Wood was loved and respected not only here in the area but throughout the state as was shown by the parade of wreckers, motorcycles and trucks. Thank you to all of them and to all that provided the fantastic lunch at Lynn Haven Baptist. Tommy was a saint here on earth and did for so many without others knowing about it. The world would be so much better if people here on earth were like Tommy. Yes, he helped those who were in need. To know him was to love him. Prayers go out to Karen, Allen, Ashley, Margaret, Barry, Bonnie and all the family. Love you all.
Deborah Alvord (niece), 1991 graduate of UNC Chapel Hill. She is a member of the Ram Club (athletic booster club). They offered a Tar Hill Experience during football games to members. Deb chose to give it to Deaton Bell (1990 grad) and Dad George H. Bell “Buddy ” (1964 master grad). This was during the UNC and UVA game. Of course Buddy wore the UNC colors, he also has a master’s degree from UVA (coincidence LOL). They both felt honored and had a blast doing it. Also same weekend Carolina legacy pinning took place on Sunday. Buddy and Deb pinned Deb and Carter Alvord’s daughters Elizabeth and Catherine, freshmen and band members at UNC. This is an old tradition where freshmen children of parents and grandparents alumni are pinned and become part of Carolina family legacy.
