The Order of the Eastern Star Virginia Hillcrest Chapter 159 hosted a Holiday Fashion Show and
luncheon fundraiser at the Vinton War Memorial on November 3. The Grand Chapter of Virginia
Order of Eastern Star is a renowned organization committed to community service activities and
outreach. Members of the Hillcrest Chapter are mainly from the Roanoke area, but there are
numerous chapters across the state.
According to their webpage, their members are “dedicated women and men who reflect the spirit
of fraternal love and desire to work together for the greater good. By giving their time and
energy to meaningful projects that include charity fundraising, supporting community youth, and
fellowship/community outreach, members strive to embody their defining principles of fidelity,
constancy, loyalty, faith, and love.”
About 70 members and guests attended this year’s event, which was facilitated and emceed by
Worthy Matron Judy Lupton, chapter president, who credited Mildred Scott for spearheading the
event.
The afternoon included the luncheon, the Holiday Fashion Show, and a silent auction.
Lupton introduced Pete Brooks, store manager of M Robinson Ladies Fine Clothing boutique,
located at Townside Festival Shopping Center in Roanoke. This was his fifth fashion show for
the organization.
Brooks served as coordinator and emcee, keeping the show running smoothly while introducing
the models and sharing details about the colors, designs and designers, materials of the clothing,
and the jewelry they were wearing.
Models included Jackie Peale, Jeane Holm, Sharon Cawley, Rosalind Reynolds, and Ann
Anderson. Each participant “walked the runway” twice, first in casual wear and then in holiday
attire.
