VINTON–Vinton Town Councilman Wes Nance has announced that he will be resigning from office in the near future and moving to Bedford County where he works as Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney.
Nance has served Vinton for 17 years, first on the Board of Zoning Appeals, and then on Town Council. He was elected to council in 2008. His term was set to expire on June 30, 2016.
According to Town Manager Chris Lawrence, “once a council member officially resigns, Town Council has 45 days to appoint a new member. Otherwise the court will appoint one.”
In past instances of this sort, qualified people were invited to submit a letter of interest. Council reviewed those letters and interviewed applicants. Council has had no opportunity to discuss the procedure they will adopt this time.
