Darlene was born in Waynesboro on February 17, 1967 and lived most of her life in Botetourt. She was the daughter of James Edward, Sr. and Lorene Jane Ayers Walker of Troutville. She was a stonemason for Little Jim’s Stone Yard and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She had a heartfelt love for her dogs. Darlene was preceded in death by her brother, James Edward Walker Jr.; grandparents, James E. and Annie Ayers, Arthur B. and Naomi G. Walker and Virginia Lynch Farrar.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 23 years, Frank “Ed” McLaughlin; daughter, Charity Gaylor; son, Ian McLaughlin; grandchildren, William “Xavier,” Gabryle and Arabelle Weden; sisters and brothers-in-law, Teresa and Barry Kinzie and Chassidy and Christopher West, all of Troutville; nephews and niece, Michael and Matthew Morris, Damion and Desirhea West; great-nephew, Drew Morris; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A service honoring her life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 9 at the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with Pastor Marc Barber officiating. Interment will follow in Lithia Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to cancer research. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 8.
