Petty Officer 3rd Class Lindsey Weightman-Carner, the wife of Vinton native Marine Cpl.
Sam Carner, is in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Coronado, Calif. She is currently deployed in the
South China Sea on the USS Theodore Roosevelt. When she returns to her home to San Diego,
she will have been deployed for eight months. The 5,000-member crew works 12-hour shifts
with no days off for the duration of the mission.
U.S. military troops not only put their lives on the line every day, but they are also separated
from spouses and family. They need support from back home as the emotional struggle can
really take its toll.
On behalf of Lindsey and her crew mates, the Weightman and Carner families are asking people
to send letters of encouragement and support. Lindsey said they especially love letters and
drawings from kids.
This would be a great educational and mission experience for preschools, church groups,
daycares, and families, etc.
Letters can be dropped off at Lynn Haven Baptist Church during office hours or in the drop box
near the office door. Please bring letters by, on or before May 18 as it takes 30 days for them to
reach the carrier.
The Chicago area native is a well-decorated sailor, including the honor of Junior Sailor of the
Year for the West Coast Navy. With that achievement, she was awarded an honorary helicopter
bearing her name. In the past few days, she has received an award from President Biden and
another one signed by her Commodore.
The Carner and Weightman families are very grateful for your support. They also wish to extend
a very special thank you to all who have served in our military; both past and present.
