The William Byrd lacrosse teams finished up their seasons last week with opening round losses in the National Division playoffs of the VHSL South Zone. The boys lost to Liberty Christian Academy, 16-1, in Lynchburg and the girls were defeated by Jefferson Forest, 17-7.
The boys also played William Fleming last week at Vinyard and lost 10-8, looking much improved over the early season games. The Terriers didn’t win a game in coach Noel Spencer’s first season but he’s optimistic about the future of the program at Byrd.
“We have a very promising future with nine freshman and four or five sophomores returning,” said Spencer. “We are definitely headed in the right direction. We will begin an off-season conditioning program soon.”
The Byrd girls had eight players named to the All-Conference team, including four first teamers. Evamarie Pascoe was first team in the goal and other first teamers were Tabitha Beecher at attack, Natalie Ferguson on defense and Ali Shail at midfield. Second teamers were Emmy Harris on defense and Chloe Pascoe on attack and honorable mention went to Leah Andersen and Katie Letz, both on attack.
