Jada Karnes, a 2019 William Byrd graduate, is having a great year pitching for the Roanoke College softball team.
Karners improved her record to 12-3 with a shutout win over Bridgewater on Tuesday at Salem’s James I. Moyer Complex. Jada struck out eight, walked none and allowed just two hits as RC took a 1-0 win in the first game of a doubleheader.
For the season Jada has pitched in 17 games, starting a team high 14. In 92.2 innings she has 95 strikeouts and just eight walks. Her earned run average is a team best 1.21 and she’s also batting .314 with five doubles and 10 runs scored in 51 at bats. Karnes has played in 23 games overall.
The Maroons, coached by Mike Mitchell, finished the regular season at 19-9 and were waiting to confirm their seeding for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament at press time. The tournament is scheduled to begin Saturday and run through May 9 with games being played at the home sites due to the coronavirus pandemic.
