VINTON–Herman L. Horn Elementary School celebrated a successful PTA fall fundraiser with their annual PTA Fun Run/Ice Cream Social/Pie Throwing event on November 6.
Each grade level spent a gym period outside on what was a beautiful sunny day, running or walking the new track.

First responders from Vinton’s Police, Fire, and EMS Departments brought their emergency vehicles for students to examine up close–a fire truck, police cruiser, and First Aid Crew ambulance. Fire Chief Chris Linkous, Police Officer Michael Caldwell, and Town Manager Chris Lawrence stopped by.

HoneyTree Early Learning Centers brought their Gamin’ Ride truck for the day. In the afternoon students were treated to ice cream from Homestead Creamery.
Students who raised $100 or more had the opportunity to throw a Cool Whip pie at teachers, who were equipped with goggles and plastic ponchos. This year the student body gathered outside on the hillside behind the school at the end of the day to watch the Cool Whip fly.

The PTA thanked their volunteers and Vice President Kellay Harnish for organizing and supervising the event, along with the Town of Vinton, Homestead Creamery, Honeytree, DJ Ham, and the many businesses which made donations which will benefit programs at the school.
They also thanked the staff at HLH for cheering on the students and “getting pies in the face.”
The PTA Fun Run project had raised $9000 as of September 30.
