The William Byrd soccer girls scored a big Blue Ridge District win Tuesday when they beat William Fleming in Roanoke, 3-0.
The game wasn’t as close as the score indicates. Byrd outshot Fleming 9-1 in the first half but could not get one past the keeper. In the second half the Terriers starting clicking, as Jenna Rozenboom scored nine minutes in. Kathryn Woodson then scored off an assist from Katie Carrao and the last goal was by Kelly O’Connor with an assist from Rozenboom.
Last Friday at Fort Defiance the girls dropped a 2-1 game to the host Indians in overtime. It was an even match throughout the entire game as Byrd able to find the first goal of the night with 17 minutes remaining in the half on a score by Rozenboom.
The Terriers held the lead going into half time, but the Indians came out firing and scored early, tying the game 1-1. Regulation ended in a tie and the Terriers had several opportunities to score in overtime but couldn’t capitalize. The Indians were able to take advantage of one of their opportunities in the first overtime period to win the game 2-1.
Byrd is now 5-9-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the Blue Ridge District. The Terriers will host Staunton River on Friday night for “Senior Night.”
