The William Byrd swimmers took on Salem and Northside in a meet at the Salem YMCA last week. Byrd lost to Salem but split with Northside, with the girls winning.
“We have some training to do after being off awhile for the holidays, but we had some best times and some good races,” said coach Krista Martin. “We are coming up on an exciting part of our season.”
Byrd’s girls beat Northside, 93-59, but lost to Salem, 103-65. The boys lost to both, 141-122 to Northside and 117-28 against a much larger Salem team.
First place finishes included Khalil Fonder in the 200 Free and the 500 Free for the boys and Chelie Plaster in the 200 Free and the 100 Free for the girls. Madison Horacek won the 200 IM and the 100 Back, Abbey Murtaugh won the 100 fly and the girls 200 Freestyle Relay team of Liah Davis, Horacek, Murtaugh and Plaster took first place.
Byrd will return to the water in competition on January 21 for the All-Timesland Invitational at the Gator Center in Roanoke.
