Savannah Gheen, a rising junior at Roanoke College, has been named to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Academic team. Savannah is a graduate of William Byrd High School and a Vinton resident.
Savannah was a sprinter and jumper for the Maroons as a sophomore, with her spring season curtailed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Eligibility for the ODAC All-Academic Team is open to any student-athlete that competes in a conference-sponsored sport, regardless of academic class. Prospective honorees must achieve at least a 3.25 grade point average for the academic year to be considered for an ODAC All-Academic Team recognition.
After having 144 student-athletes named ODAC All-Academic one year ago, Roanoke College would see that number rise to 190 for the 2019-20 academic year. The Maroons were one of 12 conference schools that had more than 100 student-athletes represented in the record breaking total of 2,646. Roanoke joined Washington and Lee, Shenandoh, Randolph-Macon, and the University or Lynchburg as the top five schools with student-athletes receiving the academic distinction.
