The Visitors Center at Explore Park will be re-opening for the season on Saturday, April 14. Once it re-opens, the park plans to stay open on a year-round basis.
To celebrate that plan and all the new and continuing activities the public can expect in the months ahead, Explore Park will be holding a free event on April 15 with “Adventure Sunday,” from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Adventure Sunday will showcase a wide variety of new amenities that will be offered this year. Visitors can chat with Blue Mountain Adventures about primitive camping, take a sneak peek at the cabins and yurts with Don’s Cab-Inns (of Vinton), and talk about horses and what Reba Farms will be offering.
There will be tours of the park’s unique indoor and outdoor rental spaces, suitable for weddings or other special events.
Adventure Sunday includes guided and interpretive hikes, informative talks and a chance to visit the Gift Shop, which has new inventory and store-wide discounts.
Visitors can enjoy music by the Falling Creek Bluegrass Band, food presented by Wake & Bacon Food Truck, the Fresh Baked Pop Up Bakery and Kettle Corn.
There will be a climbing wall, children’s activities, a scavenger hunt, a guided bird walk (at 9 a.m.), a tree identification hike (at 10:30 a.m.), and more. Wild animal shows will get visitors up close with screech owls and red-tailed hawks. There will be an outdoor retailer expo with new gear on display.
Explore Park is located at Milepost 115 off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
