Detective Sergeant of Criminal Investigations Valerie Cummings has retired from the Vinton Police Department. She has been employed with the Town of Vinton since July 13, 1999.
“After a 23-year Law Enforcement career, we wish Detective Sergeant Valerie Cummings a happy retirement,” was the comment from Police Chief Fabricio Drumond. “The dedication and service you committed to the Vinton Police Department and our community have been instrumental in our agency’s success. We wish you all the best as you embark on the next chapter of your life. May the future always continue to be bright for you.”
Cummings is the first woman to have retired from the Vinton Police Department. She served in the all-important role of Accreditation Manager for the Vinton department for several years and received the Award of Excellence for her efforts.
On the occasion of her final call, the department thanked her for her service to the citizens of the community and described her as a “pillar in the investigation department. Your knowledge and leadership have inspired and encouraged others…in a career full of distinctions and zero liabilities, you have set an example for others to follow.”
