The William Byrd girls picked up their first soccer win on Tuesday when they shut out Magna Vista, 4-0, at Robert A. Patterson Stadium. The girls are now 1-0-1 on the young season with a trip to Cave Spring tonight.
Tuesday’s first half was evenly matched as both teams settled into the game. With 18 minutes left in the half the Terriers got the first goal of the game from Addisyn St. Clair, assisted by Maddy Simmons. Goal keeper Sophia Chrisley made a huge save at the end of the first half to keep the girls ahead 1-0 at intermission.
Byrd came out strong in the second half, scoring two quick goals less than ten minutes in.The first came off corner kick when Maci Glass connected with Logan Andrews and the second was a goal from Simmons, beating a defender off the dribble. With 22 minutes remaining Emily Glass found Claire Glover, who beat the keeper with a shot inside the 18 yard box for the 4-0 final score.
Last Friday the Terriers opened the season with a 1-1 tie at Hidden Valley. The Titans struck first but Byrd leveled the score on a goal by Simmons, assisted by Andrews. Chrisley made eight saves in the cage.
After tonight’s game at Cave Spring the girls will be off for spring break.
