The William Byrd High School indoor track and field team competed at the VHSL Class 3 State Championships at Liberty University on Monday and Tuesday of this week. The Heritge girls and Western Albemarle boys took team titles while the Byrd girls were 26th and the boys were 27th among over 50 schools that compete in Class 3 in the Virginia High School League.
Chloe Harrilla had a good day for the girls, placing eighth in the long jump with a season best jump of 16’5.5”, breaking the Byrd indoor record. She also took 14th in the triple jump at 30’6” and ran on the ninth place 4×200 relay team with Kelly O’Connor, Emma Dalton and Remi Figart. They finished with a time of 1:51.81.
Sela Beatty finished 13th in the 55m dash with a time of 7.84 seconds. In the 300m dash Dalton scored with an eighth place finish with a time of 44.12 and Figart was 10th with a time of 44.57, both seasons’ best.
The 4x800m relay team of Olivia Hurd, Gordon, Maci Glass and Rebecca Qiu finished 14th with a time of 11:03.70 while the 4x400m relay of O’Connor, Gordon, Kelsey Roth and Glass finished 14th with a time of 4:30.46.
For the boys, the 4×800 team of Keaton Band, Cameron Dalton, Ryan Krawczyk and Jayden Glass finished eighth with a time of 8:36.65. Band finished fifth in the 500m dash with a time of 1:09.22, earning him all-state honors. Eli West finished 13th in the long jump with a jump of 19’8’’.
