The fourth annual Back Pack Run is scheduled for March 18 at Green Hill Park in Salem. This year the event includes both a family-friendly 2.5K run/walk and a 5K race.
The Back Pack Run benefits the non-profit Roanoke County Public Schools Education Foundation, which provides scholarships for graduating seniors and grants for teachers.
Runners can also take the Back Pack Challenge to purchase a new backpack, fill it with school supplies, and drop it off after the race.
The course for the race incorporates the Roanoke River Greenway.
The 2.5K race gets underway at 9 a.m. The fee is $20 for adults and $15 for students in advance. On-site registration the day of the race is $30 for adults and $20 students for the 2.5K.
The 5K race gets underway after the completion of the 2.5K. Advance registration is $30 for adults and $20 for students. On-site registration the day of the race is $$40 for adults and $ 25 for students.
