The high school golf season opened on Tuesday of this week when the Botetourt Golf &
Swim Club played host to the Botetourt Metro Invitational. The one day tournament was the
third annual with 18 teams competing.
Jefferson Forest was the team winner in the Metro for the second year in a row, shooting
a team score of 313. Northside came in second at 318 and Salem was third at 320. Salem junior
Kathryn Ha shot 70 to win the individual title.
William Byrd shot a team score of 346. David Foster, a freshman, led the team with an 81
and also scoring were Nathan Carter at 86, Andrew Kiker at 88 and Blake Austin at 91.
“We did alright for the first match of the year,” said Byrd coach Hunter Thompson. “We
didn’t play quite as well as we expect, but it was good to get some competitive golf under our
belt before we get into district play next week.”
The Terriers will be back in action on Tuesday, August 8, when they tee off at Ole
Monterey at 1 pm.
