The Town of Vinton and the Vinton Messenger have teamed up to put the spotlight on Town of Vinton employees during the month of their birthdays. The Town is proud to have these individuals on staff and wants to make the community aware of who is “behind the scenes” making the town look great and operate so successfully.
This week the spotlight is on Vinton’s Executive Assistant and Town Clerk, Susan Johnson. She has been employed by the town since July 27, 2011.
“We are truly blessed to have Ms. Susan Johnson as part of the professional team in the Town of Vinton,” said Mayor Brad Grose. “Susan excels in her position as our Town Clerk as well as the Executive Assistant. It would be very difficult to describe all the tasks that Susan performs daily. The value of Susan’s extensive knowledge of local government operation cannot be overstated. In addition to performing her usual duties in a very efficient manner, she is always ready to assist with special projects. Susan helps keep all of us on track and on schedule. A bonus to her professional performance is the manner in which she conducts herself as a person of great faith! I am very grateful for the assistance she provides to me and all the staff.”
Her patience, knowledge, and efficiency have also been of immeasurable value to the Vinton Messenger in writing articles involving town government.
From 1995 to 2007, Johnson served as Administrative Office Associate and then as the Executive Services Coordinator/Clerk for the City of Martinsville. She also spent 17 years with a private law firm in Martinsville and four years with the City of Roanoke Attorney’s Office.
“My first visit to Vinton was in 1976 to march with the John D. Bassett High School Band in the Dogwood Festival Parade,” Johnson shared.
Her hobbies include bicycling, cruises, scrapbooking, playing Hand and Foot, and visiting consignment shops and thrift stores.
She most enjoys spending time with her husband Donnie, her daughter Cora Beth Akers, her son-in-law Curtis Akers, and her grandsons Klayton and Harrison Akers.
