The William Byrd lacrosse teams will play host to Christiansburg tonight in a doubleheader at Robert A. Patterson Stadium. The girls will open the twin-bill at 5:30 pm, followed by the boys at approximately 7:15 pm.
The boys have been idle in the past week but the girls picked up a big win Monday at home against Franklin County. The Terriers broke up a game that was tied 4-4 at the half and held the visiting Eagles scoreless after intermission for a 16-4 win.
Franklin County scored the first two goals of the game and led 4-3 with time running out in the half when Byrd’s Trinity Hylton gathered a deflected shot and found the net just before the horn sounded to end the half. As it turned out that started a run of 13 straight goals for the Byrd girls as they dominated the second half. Byrd peppered the Franklin goal with 17 shots after intermission, finding the net a dozen times for a runaway win.
Hylton finished with five goals and two assists to lead the Terriers while Ashlyn Stover had four and two and Olivia Hurd had four goals. Annika Hylton had two goals and three helpers while Haley Firebaugh shut out the Eagles in the second half and had six saves on the night. Sam Martin had a goal, two ground balls and three forced turnovers.
After tonight’s home doubleheader the girls and boys will play a twin-bill in Blacksburg on Monday night with the girls opening at 5:30 pm.
