The Mount Pleasant Dixie League O-Zone All-Stars, for 11 and 12 year old boys, will begin District 7 tournament play on June 24 when they take on the Glenvar All-Starts at 7 pm at west Roanoke County’s Green Hill Park.
Mount Pleasant is in Division 2 of Dixie League baseball and will be competing in a three-team double elimination tournament. North Roanoke is the third team, and Mount Pleasant will play North Roanoke on Friday at Green Hill. Glenvar and North Roanoke will play Saturday, and pairings from that point will be determined by who wins in the first three games. The tournament will run at least through Sunday with an “if game” Monday.
Glenvar is also hosting the AAA tournament at Green Hill this week, but no Mount Pleasant or Vinton team will be participating. The Division 2 tournament, for nine and 10-year-olds, will consist of Glenvar, Salem and North Roanoke.
Vinton teams have been moved to the more competitive Division 1 class this year, and the Vinton All-Stars will go right to the state tournaments beginning July 9. The Vinton AAA and O-Zone all-stars will be competing in Madison Heights and a Coach-Pitch team will be in Goochland.
The Vinton softball teams have also moved to the Dixie League this year and will be competing the weekend of July 9 in state tournaments. The 8U team will be at Madison Heights, the 12U team is at Charlotte Courthouse and the 10 U team will play a home-and-home with Carroll County or at a neutral site to be determined.
Vinton’s softball teams had been competing in the Roanoke Area Youth Softball Association(RAYSA) in recent years, but moved to the Dixie League this season. The RAYSA tournaments are at the James I. Moyer Complex in Salem beginning next Monday, June 28, but no Vinton or Mount Pleasant teams are involved.
