William Byrd graduate Khalil Fonder is transferring to Virginia Tech after two seasons on the Arizona State University swim team.
Fonder won eight state championships during a storied swim career at Byrd. Khalil rewrote the record books at the 2018 state Class 4 meet while swimming for the Terriers. He won the 100 Fly with a time of 47.92, breaking the VHSL Class 4 state record. In the 100 Backstroke Fonder won with a time of 47.91 to set the Class 4 state record in that event. Both of Khalil’s swims were qualifying times for All-American honors.
Khalil will have two more years of eligibility to swim for Tech.
