The Vinton Area Swim team was at the Elks Club Monday to take on the host team and the Stonegate Swim Club. Stonegate won the tri-meet and the VAST swimmers scored 256 points on a balmy night in Roanoke.
Benjamin Hoyos (8) and Joe Ryan (10) were the top scorers of the night for VAST with 30 points each, as they swam first gold times in both the fly and the freestyle. Analise Buyalos (8) scored 29 points, finishing second gold in the 25 fly and first gold in the 50 free.
Madelynn Sprouse (15) earned 27 points, finishing third gold in the 50 fly and second gold in the 100 free. Austin Nielsen (14) also swam two gold times, finishing 4th in the 50 fly and second in the 100 free and earning 26 points.
Hannah Scott (16) swam gold times as well finishing 2nd in the 50 fly and 4th in the 100 free and earning 26 points for the team. Michael Hoyos (12) added 22 points with a 4th place gold time in the 50 fly and a first sliver in the 50 free.
Other scorers for VAST included Daisy Allmon (14) with 15 points, Gretchen Moomey (13) with 7 points, Danielle Allmon (9) with 7 points, Dalaney Allmon with 6 points, Aiden Beasley with 5 points and Savannah Bailey with 3 points. Adult swimmers Amanda Buyalos and Glenn Buyalos each scored 14 points. VAST will swim Monday, June 18 at Forest Hills.
