The new track at William Byrd High School’s Patterson Stadium hosted a meet for the first time last Saturday and the reviews were good. Byrd host a “pre-region” meet for mostly Class 4, Region D schools.
“The meet went really smooth,” said Byrd coach Eric Royal. “The surface is fast and we had several really good performances. We’re looking forward to making this a set meet for us in the future.”
A dozen teams competed in the meet with the Christiansburg boys and Salem girls coming out on top in the team scores. The Byrd boys were seventh and the girls took second.
First place winners for the Byrd girls were Gracie Tyus in the shot put, Erin Wienke in the 800 and both the 4×800 and 4×400 relays.
