The William Byrd Middle School wrestling team grappled to a fourth place finish in the area’s largest middle school tournament last weekend. The Norsemen Invitational at Northside High School marked the end of the middle school mat season.
Andrew Lewis High of Salem won the tournament, followed by the two Botetourt County middle schools, Read Mountain and Central Academy. Byrd was next with a fourth place finish, as seven Terriers placed.
Byrd had a champion with Hunter Richards at 265. Dominic Pascoe took second at 77 pounds and three Terriers were third, Jonathan Farmer at 70 pounds, Micah Oltmanns at 160 and Dustin Richards at 210. Xavier Preston, at 144, and Corbin Graham at 190 both placed fourth.
Byrd is coached by Jonathan Mitchell with assistants Otis Dowdy and Truman Farmer.
