Winter sports for Virginia High School League teams will officially begin next week, with Tuesday, November 28, scheduled as the first day for varsity games, matches and meets.
The William Byrd girls’ basketball team will tip-off the winter action with a home game against Glenvar on Tuesday night. The girls will play at Cave Spring on Friday, December 1. Byrd’s last scrimmage is November 22 at home against Brookville at 3 pm.
The boys’ basketball team, under the direction of new coach Josh Cunningham, will make their debut at home against Cave Spring on December 1. The Terriers will scrimmage this week at Franklin County on Wednesday, November 22, at 5 pm.
The Big Orange wrestlers are entered in the “River Rumble” at Staunton River High School to open their season. That will be held on December 1 & 2.
The Byrd indoor track team will run at Liberty University in the “Virginia Commonwealth Games” meet on December 1 & 2, while the Terrier swim team won’t hit the water until December 7 when Byrd, Salem, Northside and William Fleming compete at the Salem YMCA.
