Roy Lee Mabe, 80, of Laurel Springs, N.C. passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was born November 3, 1936 in Alleghany County to the late Major and Carrie Hill Mabe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by granddaughter, Kristen Nicole Eggers; and mother of his children, Lois Crouse Mabe.
Roy graduated from Sparta High School and Gaston College. He served our country in the United States Army. Roy had many passions and interests throughout his life, including Christmas tree farming, building and engineering the impossible, saw milling, wine making and working with numerous volunteer organizations. Everyone he touched valued his kind nature and vast knowledge.
Roy leaves behind his partner and soul mate, Betty Lou Greer of the home; his children, Carol Mabe of High Point, Hal Mabe and wife Robyn of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Patrick Mabe and fiancé Samantha of Falls Church, , Kayla Mabe of Roanoke, Cory Eggers of High Point; one great-grandson, Isaiah Thompson; Betty’s children, Gracie Wooldridge and husband Todd of Anawalt, W.Va., Tonya Blevins of Sparta; Betty’s grandchildren, Amy Wooldridge, Maranda Wooldridge, Tyler Wooldridge, Kellie Crouse and husband Stephen, Kari Blevins, Bubba Blevins, Bobby Joe Blevins; one brother, Hoke Mabe and wife Maxie of N. Wilkesboro; one sister, Carolyn Heath and husband Wilson of Walnut Cove; many special family members and dear friends also survive.
The family requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service to honor the life of Roy at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2017 in the chapel of Grandview Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Ben M. Peyton and Alleghany Honor Guard officiating. Interment will follow in Laurel Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends starting at 11 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.
