Eddie Davis, owner of Flowers by Eddie, partnered with Teleflora to honor those “who give back and help the community” during “Make Someone Smile Week,” July 16-22. His shop is part of the Teleflora Blue Ridge Unit. This is his first year to participate in the program, which he now plans to make an annual event.
Each year Teleflora sponsors the humanitarian program that has grown over 17 years “to become one of the floral industry’s leading charitable projects, involving growers, wholesalers, and family-owned flower shops across the country.”
This year local florists and volunteers were scheduled to deliver more than 30,000 Teleflora “Be Happy Bouquets.” Davis said his shop prepared and delivered 90 flower arrangements in the distinctive yellow mugs— arrangements which they spent a full day designing.
Teleflora donates the mugs to thousands of participating florists nationwide; individual flower shops donate their “time and talents.” Florists, wholesalers, and growers contribute the flowers, including Flowers by Eddie and TFS florists on Brambleton Avenue in Roanoke.
Bouquets traditionally go to hospital patients, children in foster care, nursing home residents, Meals on Wheels recipients, and many others whose days will be brighter because of a surprise gift.
Davis chose to honor “those who do so much for the community” at the Vinton Fire Department, Springtree Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Pheasant Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Roanoke Fire Station No. 14, Valley Metro, and the Roanoke City Police Department. Davis offers a 15 percent discount to first responders daily.
Flowers by Eddie is located at the corner of Vinton Mill Court and King Street. More information is available at www.flowersbyeddie.com/.
