The William Byrd tennis teams were in action Tuesday as both teams lost to Alleghany. The boys lost, 8-1, at home and the girls dropped a 6-3 decision in Low Moor.
Byrd won two girls’ singles matches, as Hannah Shelton took an 8-4 decision at number two and Allison Faulkner won, 8-3, at number four. “It was a good match and I stuck with it until the last point,” said Faulkner.
Byrd also won at number three doubles. The team of Maddie Craig and Julia Kelly took an 8-4 decision.
“It was a great match and both teams were evenly matched,” said Byrd coach Kayla Mitchell.
The Byrd teams were scheduled to play Lord Botetourt on Wednesday of this week, but results were too late for publication. On Friday the girls will host Rockbridge and the boys will play at Rockbridge.
